]]> Free Palestine Socks are inspired by imagery from the Occupied Territories and our effort at showing solidarity with oppressed people. We do not stand alongside anyone other than the oppressed people of Palestine, this does not mean we condone the attacks of 07 Oct or organisations perpetrating atrocities against civilians. It means we want justice for the people of Palestine, dignity, equality, and our choice of charity underlines that. People are human and deserve dignity. We stand against antisemitism as we do all forms of racism. However we think the actions of Western governments do not go far enough in protecting the innocent people of Palestine who want Freedom, and we are supporting them in this small way with our skills and business. If you don’t agree, don’t buy the socks.
The profit from the Socks will be passed to a charity working in Palestine with young people, with whom we have discussed the donation. We will publicise exactly where and who the money goes to when we make the donation. After all costs it works out about £4 per pair, £1200 if we sell all of them, in the interests of full transparency.

]]> Mash One x Sock Council Socks mark our first foray in to collabs and graffiti inspired Socks. We’ve wanted to do these for ages, because we think the styles, shapes, colour of graffiti tags, pieces and dubs lend themselves perfectly to nice Socks. Styles for miles.

We’ve held an almost lifelong interest in graffiti, from getting a copy of Martha Cooper and Henry Chalfant’s Subway Art, to being friends with writers growing up on Tyneside. At one point we were even responsible for organising an exhibition at the Baltic Centre For Contemporary Art featuring Barry McGee (Twist), Space Invader (those little pixelated video game characters that are everywhere), and Shepard Fairey (Obey). After this we curated the G Word, The Baltic’s first ever exhibition of local artists of any kind, that drew record crowds to the centre.

We’ve been friends with Mash since the 1990s, comparing trainers in Newcastle pubs, talking graffiti and Newcastle United. He’s a really sound bloke who works in the creative industries, like so many writers who get a bad name as vandals, their hobby actually leads to really positive things, because they’re supremely talented.

So, after all that waffle, it’s wonderful we’ve been able to make these Socks together and we hope you enjoy them as much as we liked working on them together.

]]> Jack Socks are inspired by one of our all time favourite films, Get Carter. Jack Carter is of course the leading character, played superbly by Michael Caine. If you haven’t seen the film the recent 4k edit is simply stunning and a much watch. It comes with the brilliant soundtrack written by jazz pianist Roy Budd, it’s simply genius. The film is based in our home, Newcastle upon Tyne, in a gritty 1970s Tyneside that bears only some resemblance to the modern city that exists, unless you explore a little further. These socks are our tribute to a brilliant movie and character.
