We’ve brought back our hugely popular Fairs Cup Socks released last year to coincide with the fiftieth anniversary of Newcastle United’s last trophy triumph. The Magpies defeated crack Hungarian side Ujpest Dosza across two legs of the 1969 final, coming back from 2-0 down in the second leg to snatch triumph from the jaws of possible ignominy.
The socks were so popular that even Ujpest fans heard of them and made purchases from Budapest. This culminated to a visit to the Hungarian capital in February 2020 to meet with Ujpest supporters and build on a shared history, our hosts were simply amazing. You can see a selection of pictures in the product gallery.
In light of this we wanted to remake the socks, to commemorate the final and the positive relationships that exist to this day because of it. Both clubs are now terrible so we need to cling on to past glories! These socks are also a tribute to the friendship of Kristian and Akos, two great blokes who will be visiting a Newcastle game with me as soon as it’s possible, there are good people everywhere. Forza Ujpest!
The socks are available in two sizes:
Small – UK 3 to 7
Large – UK 8 to 11
Made in the UK from cotton and nylon. These socks are a thinner gauge than the previous version but will still keep you warm enough in the NE or Budapest winters!
